Once you have decided to hire international remote employees, the next question is how to structure the arrangement. Most companies face the same choice: do you want to manage the employee directly, or do you want a partner to stay involved in onboarding, coaching, and performance?
Within our Talent System, we offer two options: Direct Placement and Managed Talent. Neither is objectively better; they suit different management styles and different levels of internal capacity.
Direct Placement: You Manage the Employee
With Direct Placement, we source, screen, and place qualified employees for the client to manage. We handle the hard part — finding and vetting candidates in international markets — and then the employee joins your team under your direction.
This model works best when you already have managers who can lead the hire, set expectations, and provide day-to-day direction. It gives you maximum control and keeps the reporting relationship direct.
Managed Talent: We Stay Involved
With Managed Talent, we provide recruitment alongside ongoing onboarding support, KPI tracking, coaching, and performance oversight under the agreed service terms. The employee is still part of your team, but we help make sure the role is set up to succeed.
This model works best for companies that want structure and accountability without building a full internal management layer for remote staff. It is especially useful when you are hiring several roles or scaling quickly.
Side-by-Side Comparison
The table below summarizes the main differences between the two models.
| Consideration | Direct Placement | Managed Talent |
|---|---|---|
| Who manages the employee | Your internal managers | Your team, with Valorem support |
| Recruitment & screening | Included | Included |
| Onboarding support | Handled by your team | Ongoing support |
| KPI tracking | Your responsibility | Tracked for you |
| Coaching & performance oversight | Your responsibility | Included under service terms |
| Best for | Companies with internal management ready | Companies scaling fast or wanting structure |
Compensation is separate: in both models, the client pays employee compensation separately from Valorem's service fees. This keeps costs transparent and gives you direct visibility into what you are paying.
